I hear it all the time in our Lawrenceville clinic, especially from people asking for hair removal near me: “Sonia is the best ever.” The #1 rule after face laser hair removal is simple: keep your skin calm for 48 hours. That means cool it down, cleanse gently, skip makeup and sweat, moisturize with something fragrance-free, and wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every single morning.
The first 24–48 hours: calm skin gets better results
Your face treatment is quick, about 15 minutes, but your skin still needs a short reset window right after. Redness and warmth are common in that first day, and in humid Georgia summers, heat and sweat can keep irritation hanging around longer than it needs to.
Do this today and tomorrow
- Cool compresses for 5–10 minutes at a time if you feel heat or puffiness.
- Cleanse with a mild, non-fragranced cleanser and lukewarm water. Pat dry, don’t rub.
- Apply a simple moisturizer (no fragrance, no actives) as needed.
- Skip makeup for at least 24 hours. If your skin still feels warm or sensitive, give it longer.
- Avoid hot showers, steam, and anything that makes your face flush.
I also recommend holding off on heavy exercise for 48 to 72 hours. Sweat plus friction can sting and can make bumps look worse. If you absolutely need movement, keep it light, keep your face cool, and cleanse gently right after.
Days 3–7: the “don’t mess with it” week (sun, sweat, and actives)
This is the week where people either protect their results or accidentally irritate their skin. I love that so many first-timers tell me they felt comfortable because I explain the whole process clearly. Aftercare is the same vibe. Simple, consistent, and no overdoing it.
Sun protection is non-negotiable for 2 weeks
Direct sun after facial laser can raise your risk of dark marks, especially if you tan easily. Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every day, even if you’re just driving around Lawrenceville or running errands near the downtown courthouse area. If you’ll be outside, reapply.
Quick “Georgia summer” tip: If it’s hot and humid and you’re sweating easily, plan your face laser session when you can keep things low-key for the next 48 hours.
Avoid these for 7–14 days
- Exfoliants and active ingredients: retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, and benzoyl peroxide.
- Saunas, hot tubs, and chlorinated pools for at least 48–72 hours, longer if you’re still irritated.
- Waxing or threading on treated facial areas. Stick with shaving when it’s allowed (more on that below).
- Picking at bumps or “pepper spots.” Let them resolve on their own.
Products that play nice with post-laser facial care
The goal is to support your skin barrier, not test new products. Keep your routine basic for the week. If you’re also someone who loves facials, this is not the week for strong peels or aggressive exfoliation.
Cleanser
Go gentle, fragrance-free, and non-foaming if you run sensitive. Lukewarm water only.
Moisturizer
Choose a simple, non-fragranced moisturizer. Reapply if you feel dry or tight.
Sunscreen
Broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning. Mineral or chemical is fine as long as it doesn’t sting on you.
If you’ve been using strong actives before, you can bring them back gradually only after your skin fully calms. If you’re unsure, ask me at your follow-up. A quick check saves you a week of irritation.
When to text or call me (and what’s normal)
Mild redness, warmth, and a little sensitivity are common right after Laser Hair Removal on the face. Most people calm down within a day or two. If you’re driving in from Duluth, Suwanee, Snellville, Norcross, Buford, or Dacula, I’m still close by on the Duluth Highway commercial corridor, so quick follow-ups are easy.
Reach out the same day if you notice:
- Blistering, open skin, or pus
- Spreading redness or increasing pain
- Fever, chills, or anything that feels “off”
"The staff are very kind and attentive, and they answer all your questions."
