After Your Laser Treatment for Hair Removal: 0–72 Hour Care
By BodyBrite- Lawrenceville | September 17, 2026
I see it all the time in my Lawrenceville studio: people do great with Laser Hair Removal, then accidentally irritate their skin with heat, sweat, or active products. The single most important rule for the first 24–72 hours is simple: keep the treated area cool, clean, and out of heat. That means no hot showers, no sauna, no hard workouts, and no picking. If you stick to that, you protect your comfort and your results.

Quick context: Our 1 Hr Unlimited Laser Hair Removal appointment is a full 60 minutes (starting at $250), and I can treat unlimited areas in that one visit. It’s a great option if you want to tackle multiple spots at once, but your aftercare needs to be just as focused.
0–24 hours: cool skin, gentle cleansing, and no heat (yes, even in north Georgia humidity)
Right after laser hair removal, your skin often looks and feels like a mild sunburn. A little redness and slight swelling around follicles is common. What I don’t want is for you to stack irritation on top of irritation.
What I want you to do today
- Cool compresses: 5 to 10 minutes at a time, a few times a day if you feel heat. Keep it comfortable, not ice-burn cold.
- Wash gently: lukewarm water, a fragrance-free cleanser, and clean hands. Pat dry. No scrubbing cloths or exfoliating gloves.
- Moisturize simply: a lightweight, fragrance-free moisturizer or plain aloe gel helps calm that tight feeling.
What to avoid in the first 12–24 hours
Skip these for now: hot showers, steam rooms, saunas, heavy sweating, and any product that stings. If we treated your underarms, hold off on deodorant for at least 12–24 hours. And avoid makeup on freshly treated facial areas until the skin feels calm again.
If you’re in the Duluth Highway commercial corridor area on the east side of Lawrenceville near downtown and the courthouse, you know how sticky late-summer and early-fall days can get in north Georgia. Sweat plus friction is one of the fastest ways to make treated skin angry. Keep it cool, keep it dry, and you’ll usually stay comfortable.
24–72 hours: protect the follicles, avoid workouts, and don’t “help” with exfoliation
This is the window where people tend to feel better and then overdo it. The laser targets the follicle, and the hair sheds over time. Scrubbing, picking, or stacking actives can backfire and prolong irritation.
Avoid these common “negatives”
When people ask me, “What are the negatives of laser hair removal?” the most common ones are temporary: redness, a warm or prickly feeling, and sensitivity for a day or two. Those are manageable when you avoid heat, friction, and harsh products during these first 72 hours.
- No strenuous exercise: give it at least 24 to 48 hours. If you’re still pink or warm, wait a bit longer.
- No pools, hot tubs, or lakes: chlorine, heat, and bacteria are a rough combo for freshly treated skin.
- No exfoliation or acids: skip scrubs, AHA/BHA products, and chemical peels. And don’t wax, thread, or use depilatory creams on treated areas.
Busy schedule note: I love that this 60-minute session can fit into a lunch break, but plan your next 1 to 2 days like you’re protecting a mild sunburn. That’s how you avoid missing school pickups or showing up to work feeling irritated.
Days 3–7: SPF 30+ daily, no tanning, and pause retinoids for at least 7 days
If the treated area will see daylight, sunscreen is non-negotiable. I recommend SPF 30+ every single morning, even if it’s cloudy. Laser-treated skin and UV exposure do not mix well.
The two-week mindset (even if you feel fine)
For the next two weeks, avoid intentional tanning and prolonged sun exposure on treated areas. And keep your skincare calm. If you use retinoids or strong acids, pause them for at least 7 days or follow the guidance I gave you at your visit. This is a big part of keeping skin even and comfortable.
When can you shave?
Shaving is usually fine once the skin is calm and no longer warm or irritated. Use a clean razor and a gentle shave cream, then moisturize. If you’re still tender, give it another day. And remember, no waxing or plucking during your series since that pulls the hair from the follicle we’re trying to treat.
The simple product routine I recommend after Laser Hair Removal
You don’t need a complicated shelf right now. In fact, simple is safer.
- Cleanser: fragrance-free, gentle, and non-scrubby. Lukewarm water only.
- Moisturizer or aloe: lightweight, fragrance-free. Apply with clean hands.
- Sunscreen: SPF 30+ on any treated area that sees sun.
Some people ask about 1% hydrocortisone. I only want you using that if I specifically recommend it for your skin. If something stings or burns when you apply it, wash it off and switch back to bland, fragrance-free care.
When to call me at BodyBrite Lawrenceville (and what’s normal)
Normal reactions usually include mild redness, a warm feel, and small bumps around follicles that calm down in 24 to 72 hours. If your symptoms are getting better each day, you’re usually right on track.
Reach out right away if you notice blistering, spreading redness, fever, heavy pain, pus, or anything that worsens instead of improving within 48 to 72 hours. I’d rather you check in early than sit at home wondering.

one of our regulars
If you’re searching “hair removal near me” and you want a team that answers questions without rushing you, that’s exactly how I run appointments. My location on the Duluth Highway commercial corridor makes it an easy stop near the downtown/courthouse area. And if you’re coming in from Duluth, Suwanee, Snellville, Norcross, Buford, or Dacula, I’m happy to help you time your follow-ups so aftercare fits real life.
Two questions I hear all the time
How many sessions are needed? It depends on the area, hair type, and your growth cycle. Most people need a series. I’ll talk you through a realistic plan so you know what you’re committing to.
What I wish I knew before laser hair removal? The results build over sessions. You might see a reduction early, but consistency and good aftercare are what keep you moving forward without irritation setbacks.
Need to ask a quick aftercare question? Call or email me and tell me what area we treated and what you’re noticing. I’ll point you in the right direction.
